New thinlet birthday card

Stampin'up! came out with thinlets, see post (stampin news) with video about 3 weeks ago. I love how easy it is to make a moving card. We made this card at club last week. It uses Birthday Basics dsp, Bring on the cake stamp set, and Birthday Candles wheel. The balloons are made with the small oval punch with owls feet and bakers twine. A strip of Coastal Cabana ruffle stretch trim finished the card.

 Open view. Colors used are coastal cabana, summer starfruit, and raspberry ripple, with gumball green and crisp cantaloupe added for the candles. Who wouldn't love to receive this?!?

Bitty butterfly CASE from Spring catalog.

I saw a couple of similar cards posted and really liked them, one said it was a CASE (copy and share everything) from the Spring catalog, so I had to go back and look. I used the exact layout, but changed colors and used Epic Day dsp. I don't have a sewing machine, so I sewed with bakers twine after using the paper piercer and guide for the holes. I used the fine splatter stamp from Gorgeous Grunge stamp set. The catalogs aren't just to sell you products, they truly are Idea Books. Go find a card you like and CASE it!

Bitty Butterfly meets Modern Medley designer paper

I've seen this technique used and loved the idea so had to try it myself. The strips of cardstock or paper are 7/8" wide and 2 1/2, 3 1/4, 4 and 4 3/4" long. Punch a scrap of paper the same size with the bitty butterfly punch at an angle, then use that as a pattern to punch all the strips so they have the same angle. Attach to card front, then add stamped and punched butterflies.

I used a banner from the labels thinlet for a sentiment from teeny tiny wishes.

 

 

 On the inside is the lattice die folded with more butterflies added. Another time, I would glue the lattice farther apart on the sides so it opens up more.

Double gate fold card with instructions

Use double sided designer paper 12x5 1/2". Score at 4 and 8". Mark each 5 1/2 side at 2 3/4. Cut from top of each 4" area to the 2 3/4" mark. You will have a triangle from each side. Turn over and using the opposite pattern, glue on bottom of the panels that you cut off the top. The tip of the triangle should face out and the wide area to the center. Then fold each outer panel to the center to make the double gate fold. I used a belly band to close the card and it measures 1x8 1/2". I also added a 1/2x81/2" strip of designer paper to the belly band. Then add an image, cutout, punched shape, etc. to the front of the belly band. Glue it over where the edges of the band met and are glued.

 This rose red card is my first one and I glued the triangles on wrong, so that you don't see both patterns on the front when the belly band with sentiment is in place unless you position it lower as in next photo.

We took the whole crew to Branson and had family photos taken. Our oldest daughter Angela-in the back on the right, is mom to the 4 girls, our middle daughter Ariel-not here, is mom to our only grandson, and our youngest daughter Alexis-in the back on the left, is raising her husband Bryan-in the white hat.

Our lovely grandchildren! Taylor is 15, Abi is 12 1/2, Mady is almost 11, Emma just turned 8, and Dylan will be 6 next month.

More sunburst cards

Warning, this technique is addicting!

 

The measurements for the pieces of paper for this first card are 1 1/2x4", then cut each diagonally into 2 triangles (use paper cutter to cut edges straight). You can repeat the pattern or use both sides for different patterns. The paper backing to glue the triangles to is 3x5"-see picture below with triangles glued. You then turn the paper over and trim the excess.

 

This card below uses modern medley designer paper, scallop circle punches, A Round Array stamp set (for you), and the arrows are from Hello Lovely stamp set. Ribbon is vanilla taffeta and 1/8 " black taffeta.

 For the next two cards I used 1 1/4 x 4" rectangles of quatrefancy. This first card is centered beginning in the middle, the next one starts at one side and is a bit off center (deliberately). There is no right or wrong way to make these. I used island indigo ruffled ribbon (retired) below.

 I added pool party card stock that is dry embossed to the next card and a repeating pattern. A little less busy. The ribbon is new in color strawberry slush ruffled stretch trim.

My inspiration for this card is the sample on pg 110 of the SU catalog. But I made the card regular size, not longer as in the sample. I used cardstock here and some is embossed with the Bigshot and embossing folders. I also stamped on the white card stock.

As most of you know, I am frugal, thrifty, or cheap. I did a lot of measuring and figured out exact size of rectangles needed, the width is 1 1/4 for all. It is more work though, so really it's easier to just make them all 4 " long.

More dresses

I can't believe that I almost didn't get the Dress Up framelits. It is like playing with paper dolls!

 

I had seen a few dresses with a head and hat added and wanted to try that. All the dresses are made with the print poetry designer paper stack from the spring catalog, but there are many other papers that can be used. I've even seen dresses of cardstock that are stamped.

 For the above head I used the small oval punch. The hat uses the large oval and flowers made with the itty bitty shapes punch and mosaic madness stamp.

I used the retired medium oval punch for this head, I like the more slender "shape" of it. The hat is made with the large oval and the small oval punch. The band is made by punching with the small oval punch twice. The flower is made with simply pressed clay. I used a very tiny ball of clay and pressed it into the center of the smallest flower mold.

Both of these dresses are embellished with the smallest simply pressed flower.

I like adding a layer of color at the neckline or hem.

Gorgeous Grunge meets rainbow

This "gorgeous" stamp set is found on pg 109 of the Stampin'Up! annual catalog (24.95 wood mount, 17.95 clear mount). I liked it when I saw it, but it did not make it to my wish list, at least not until I saw some samples by some wonderful ladies on Stampin' Connection.

 

Debbie Blake made a set of cards using rainbow colors that I just fell in love with, so I HAD to get this set! She used a white layer on a white card base. I tried to add a color layer, but couldn't find a color that I was happy with, so went with black. I must have seen a card by Melissa Stout at some point, because I later saw that is what she did. Both Debbie and Melissa added rhinestones to the first card below, but I found some black leftover from some SU had sold for Halloween one year that really made a POP. (you can also use a sharpie to color rhinestones black) I also stamped all sentiments with black ink.

 

The rainbow colors that I chose were Real Red, Pumpkin Pie, Daffodil Delight, Gumball Green, Pacific Point, and Rich Razzleberry. But you could make your own rainbow color choices!

 I used the stamp-a-ma-jig to line both of these cards up.

This next card was inspired by Andrea Borries. The stripes image looks just like a candle, then ink just the one splotch with a marker for the flame. On this card, I did use some colored card stock instead of all white. When looking back to see who I needed to credit for my ideas, I see that she added a rhinestone to the flame, so I am going to go do that now.
